Project displayed for Chinese new year at Parnell
The monkey art pieces are on show during the Year of the Monkey Exhibition, 6-21 February, in Parnell art galleries and several jewellery and décor stores.
The exhibition is primarily along Parnell Road with a ‘mini’ monkey sanctuary on The Strand in Matisse and the E & H Building complex.
The 28 artists and celebrities that have added their creative genius to each of the monkey art pieces are well-known New Zealand and internationally recognised artists, as well as a few celebrities of local and international fame. Their inspirations in creating their monkeys tell a story in themselves as each piece has taken on its own personality.
All of the monkeys will be auctioned for a well deserving charity, with profits of the auction in 2016 going to The Starship Foundation National Air Ambulance Service. Mine is going to be exhibited at trenzseater. Ideas behind my monkey: when i first received the sculpture i was captivated by the details on it and was stunned how fragile it looked. I wanted to extend this idea with a Chinese porcelain theme, to connect this with my roots and the idea of me being 1.5 generation and my heritage being a fragile treasure to keep in the arts. motifs of the chrysanthemum and Chinese symbols are extended though out the sculpture as a link to the year of the Monkey.
