SEVEN IS A LUCKY NUMBER Recently the law changed from nine snapper to seven per day. They also changed the size to 30cm to make sure we get more fish in the future. The painting displays seven large fish being caught all at once with no fish left in the sea. Sometimes we assume that fish breed all the time and they have enough to go around. However, because some fish take longer to grow and there are larger numbers catching them, breeding may never catch up to the dying numbers. (NOTE: The Chinese associate Fish with prosperity and seven is considered a lucky number in European culture. Therefore, the idea of luck in prosperity comes into play with this painting.
